There is no civil marriage or civil divorce in Israel; all marriages and divorces must be validated by a Jewish rabbi's ruling. However, the rights of the husband often override those of a third-party adjudicator. "Lawsuit" tells a story set against this background. The protagonist, Vivian Amsalem, filed for divorce three years ago, but her husband, Elisha, refuses to agree. Despite Elisha's unwillingness to compromise, Vivian is determined to fight for her freedom, yet the attitude of the religious adjudicator remains ambiguous. Amidst the tug-of-war among the three parties, a series of tragedies and absurdities unfold.
