The story takes place in the early 1990s, as the once glorious Zhongyuan Aircraft Factory shows signs of clumsiness and fatigue. Junior high school student Qu Jing (played by Su Xiaotong) lives in the family area; her father, Qu Zhicheng (played by Guo Xiao), is a somewhat pedantic and stubborn forensic doctor. Although Dr. Qu often faces ridicule from his wife and mockery from those around him, he remains unwavering in his methodical approach to cases. In contrast, his colleague Zhang Shulin (played by Zhou Kui) has a rough style and a high case-solving rate, though this sometimes leads to coerced confessions. Qu Jing becomes friends with Zhang Shulin's daughter, Zhang Xue (played by Lu Qiwei), whose overly flamboyant demeanor attracts disdain from many. A small act of trouble from Qu Jing causes Zhang Xue to vanish without a trace in front of everyone. Just before this, a series of brutal rape and murder cases occur locally. Everyone appears suspicious, and every dark, cold corner hides infinite danger…
