The New York ballet company is preparing to remount "Swan Lake." Following the departure of lead dancer Beth (played by Winona Ryder), director Thomas (played by Vincent Cassel) decides to hold open auditions for a new lead, requiring the dancer to portray both the Black Swan and the White Swan. Nina (played by Natalie Portman) has been practicing ballet since childhood and, under her mother's careful guidance, has developed outstanding skills. This time, she hopes to stand out. However, in the competition, she discovers that the scheming Lily (played by Mila Kunis) is her strong rival. In the auditions, her White Swan performance is flawless, but her Black Swan is not up to Lily's level. She feels exhausted both physically and mentally and discovers red marks on her back and foot injuries when she gets home. She approaches the director alone, hoping to make her case. The director takes the opportunity to kiss her, but she firmly rejects him. In the end, the director surprisingly chooses her. Her teammates suspect she rose to prominence based on her looks. At a party, Beth even vents her frustrations publicly. This pressure, combined with her injuries, continues to affect her performance. The director inspires her to release her passion and embody the seduction of the Black Swan. Under powerful psychological suggestion, she seems to slip into the role of the Black Swan...
