One of “Doll Film Queen” Li Jing's representative works. “Queen of Sky Novels” Xiao Xiang cross-dresses as the top scholar Wen Bizheng, who admires the young lady of the Tianguan mansion, Huo Dingjin (Li Jing). Wen unexpectedly sells himself as a slave to infiltrate the Huo family, coincidentally meeting and confessing their love, pledging their lives to each other and using a phoenix pearl hairpin as a token of their affection. Huo's mother forces Dingjin to marry her nephew, but Dingjin refuses and reveals the truth. However, Huo's mother threatens her with death. Dingjin devises a plan, pretending there's a fire in the mansion and escapes dressed as a man. She is fortunate to be taken in as an adopted son by Liu Taishi and appointed as an imperial inspector. At this time, Wen is wrongfully imprisoned by his mother, who attempts to kill him. Dingjin learns of this and devises a plan to rescue him... The story is legendary and intricate, with the Huangmei Opera songs by Zhou Lanping and Chen Dieyi being moving, the female characters' singing is excellent, and the scenery is magnificent; “Female Inspector” had a box office sweep in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, with a “golden cast” both on and off the stage.
