Lauded as an outstanding romantic musical in the history of Hong Kong cinema, the film's serendipitous plot combined with song and dance is a feast for the eyes. Lin Dai plays a young dancer who, as part of a troupe, travels to Japan. In a foreign land, she copes with loneliness and meets a young man through a friendship advertisement. Although they have never met, their letters have already fostered feelings for one another. Unexpectedly, he turns out to be the head of the dance troupe! This role is played by the top comedic actor Chen Hou of the time, creating a story of romantic rivals and a puzzling love affair, reminiscent of the nostalgic version of "Online Romance." Lin Dai even won the Best Actress award at the 8th Asian Film Festival for her role. The film features stunning sets and cinematography, utilizing the newly introduced Eastman Color wide screen, rivaling the major Hollywood musical productions of its time. In the same year, it also won five awards at the Asian Film Festival, including Best Art Direction, Best Music, Best Editing, and Best Sound; it subsequently secured two awards for Best Director and Best Music at the first Golden Horse Awards. The film's songs, composed by Yao Min and sung by Jing Ting, have been popular for half a century.
