It is said that among the emperors of the Qing Dynasty, none loved to travel incognito as much as Emperor Qianlong (played by Liu Yong)! One day, tired of the cumbersome rituals and boring life in the palace, Qianlong was filled with frustration. He was fed up with the yellow garments, heavy hats, and the monotonous court meetings; even gourmet food failed to pique his interest. Instead, it was the soldiers' mixed vegetable stew from the armory that whetted his appetite. As various discontents built up, the emperor finally exploded; he resolved to follow in the footsteps of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, venturing out in disguise to understand the people's lives, but more importantly, to enjoy himself and unwind. After devising a scheme, Qianlong sneaked out of the palace, leaving his ministers scrambling to send someone to protect him secretly. That day, the emperor encountered the fortune-teller Ma Banxian (played by Shi Zhongtian), who unexpectedly informed him that he would face imprisonment.
