Renowned director Guido Contini (Daniel Day Lewis) is planning his ninth film. After a previous box office disaster that led to media attacks, only female journalist Stephanie (Kate Hudson) refrains from criticism. The producer continues to apply pressure, but luckily, assistant Lily (Judi Dench) is there to help him out. Feeling unwell, he hides in a hotel in Rome, listening to the comforting words of his wife Luisa (Marion Cotillard) on the phone while engaging with his mistress Carla (Penélope Cruz), unable to escape the childhood shadows cast by his mother (Sophia Loren). During auditions with the famous star Claudia (Nicole Kidman), he begins to reflect on the meaning of cinema... This film is inspired by Italian film master Fellini's "8½" and adapted from the 1982 Broadway musical of the same name. The film received four nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, and Best Song.
