The series is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name written by Colson Whitehead, telling the story of a Black slave girl, Cora, who seeks the rumored "Underground Railroad" to escape a plantation in Georgia. In her search, she discovers that there is, in fact, a literal underground railroad that helps slaves escape their brutal lives. Jenkins will direct all 11 episodes, each lasting 1 hour.
