Dale (Seth Rogen) has a job that he and everyone else hates - a process server. His high school girlfriend Angie's handsome classmates constantly make Dale uncomfortable, so smoking marijuana has become his best escape, even a sort of faith. Dale regularly buys weed from local thug Saul (James Franco), who considers him a friend and offers him his best strain, "Pineapple Express," but Dale sees Saul as just a more pathetic loser than himself. That night, Dale accidentally witnesses local drug lord Red and a female cop committing murder. In a panic, Dale drops the rare Pineapple Express at the scene while trying to escape. Fearing for their lives, Dale and Saul choose to go on the run, but their cautious yet clumsy attempts to hide only involve more people in the chaos. Throughout this ordeal, the two escape artists gradually learn to confront their own weaknesses...
