The story takes place in the mid-seventeenth century in the Netherlands. Druyte (played by Frank Lammers) inherits the position from Marten (played by Rutger Hauer) to become the new admiral. He proves his intelligence and strength through a series of victories, earning the trust and respect of his subordinates. Republican official John (played by Barry Atsma) and Prince William III of the Orange Party (played by Egbert Jan Weeber) engage in a power struggle without battle.
