This film is adapted from the 2003 video game of the same name by Ubisoft. Fifteen years ago, the orphan Dastan (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) was adopted by the Persian king for his bravery in a market. Fifteen years later, the grown Dastan, along with his two brothers and uncle (played by Ben Kingsley), goes to war, attacking the holy city of Alamut, and is promised the hand of Princess Tamina (played by Gemma Arterton) in marriage by the king. Dastan inadvertently acquires the "Dagger of Time," which Tamina has sworn to protect, but he is falsely accused of poisoning the old king and forced to flee. To clear his name and ensure that the great Persian Empire does not fall into ruin, Dastan coerces Princess Tamina to enter the infamous "Valley of Slaves" with him, disrupting Amir's (played by Alfred Molina) ostrich race. During the old king's funeral, Dastan finally discovers the true culprit, while Tamina reveals the secrets of the "Dagger of Time" to him...
