The legendary hero Li Mu Bai (played by Chow Yun-fat) intends to withdraw from the martial world and entrusts his close confidante Yu Shu Lian (played by Michelle Yeoh) to pass on the Green Destiny sword to Prince Jai (played by Lang Xiong) for safekeeping. However, that same night, it is stolen by Jen Yu (played by Zhang Ziyi). Yu Shu Lian secretly investigates and suspects that it was the work of the young lady of the Yu household, Yu Jiaolong. She attempts to force Yu Jiaolong to return the sword to avoid further conflict.
