Veteran Terry (played by Samuel L. Jackson) faces an impending trial, in which he is accused of attacking a protesting crowd during a mission to protect an ambassador, resulting in the deaths of nearly 80 unarmed innocent civilians. In the face of these accusations, Terry maintains his innocence because he knows that those protesters were not unarmed and that they were the ones who first attacked the embassy. Soon, Terry realizes that all signs indicate he is at a disadvantage. Even before the trial results are revealed, the government and military seem to have treated the incident as a scandal; they not only fabricated testimonies but also erased any evidence that could be favorable to Terry. Confronted with this conspiracy, Terry is not prepared to give up. He contacts his old comrade, lawyer Hayes (played by Tommy Lee Jones), hoping that with his help, he can regain his innocence.
