The film tells the story of the first group of African American pilots in the U.S. during World War II, who overcame systemic and racial barriers to form a unique experimental bomber escort squadron known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Their planes were marked with "red tails," which became their nickname. The "red tails" were the first pilot group in American military history made up of African Americans, sent to Alabama for war training, always ready for combat. There, they faced rampant racism and harassment, and their flying and combat abilities were often questioned, but the "red tails" excelled in the air, prompting the Air Force to abolish segregation. They played an indispensable role in the conflicts against Italy and Germany.
