Following the three major campaigns, our East China Field Army was ordered by the Central Committee to strategically encircle Shanghai. Commander Tang Yunfu (played by Wang Ban) of the Shanghai-Hangzhou Garrison led 300,000 Kuomintang troops to stubbornly resist, preparing for a decisive battle with our forces. In accordance with the Central Committee's directives and adhering to the operational strategy of liberating Shanghai while preserving the city, we drew the enemy's main force to the city's outskirts for annihilation. Commander Fang (played by Ding Ni) and Political Commissar Zhang (played by Gao Yan) made meticulous preparations for the troops to enter the city. With the cooperation of Lin Fan (played by Hu Xiaoguang), the head of the Shanghai underground party, our army attacked the urban area and occupied a large area south of the Suzhou River.
