"The Cyclist" is a film directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, which tells the story of many Afghan refugees fleeing to Iran during the war, each playing out tragic tales. The protagonist of "The Cyclist" is an unfortunate Afghan refugee who, in Iran, faces his wife's severe illness, hard labor, and discrimination. To save money for her treatment, this honest man considers various solutions and takes on a seemingly absurd job: a week-long bicycle performance without getting off the bike. The organizer is a greedy boss who, aiming for profit, invites many spectators to create a grand spectacle. Thus, everyone in the town becomes engrossed in this performance, placing bets as if they were watching a major event... The poor Afghan man performs non-stop on the bicycle for 24 hours a day, utterly exhausted, yet he endures in hopes of receiving payment, suffering inhuman pain. By the end of the seventh day of the performance, he is a mere shell of a human.
