Randle McMurphy (played by Jack Nicholson) fakes insanity to escape the forced labor in prison and is sent to a mental institution, where his arrival significantly disrupts the stagnant atmosphere of the hospital. McMurphy demands to watch a baseball game on television, challenging the hospital's strict management, and faces relentless obstruction from Nurse Ratched (played by Louise Fletcher). He leads the patients on a fishing trip, uplifting their spirits but causing headaches for the staff. To punish McMurphy for his boldness and repeated violations of hospital rules, the administration decides to keep him in the asylum indefinitely. Naturally free-spirited, McMurphy can no longer endure life in the institution. He joins forces with fellow patients, including the tall Indian "Chief," to launch his plan: to fly over the cuckoo's nest. The film won five Oscars at the 48th Academy Awards in 1975, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The protagonist's motto of "better to be dead than unfree" still holds significant relevance in today's society.
