At the foot of Mount Fuji, Aokigahara Forest, known nationwide as a "suicide hotspot," hosts its annual search for suicides organized by the local fire department. Matsumura, who runs a simple inn, actively participates in the search each year. This year, a male tourist joins voluntarily. However, after entering the forest, the male tourist disappears deep within the woods. The following year, the search team discovers the man's body, and Matsumura has a vague feeling that the man seems to convey some emotions to him. Using the belongings of the deceased, he embarks on a long journey to seek out the man's relatives and his past... The film is adapted from a story in Shintaro Ishihara's short story collection "Moments of Life and Death," and it ranked sixth in audience satisfaction in its opening week.
