Maria Altmann (played by Helen Mirren), a Jewish-American woman, seeks the help of young lawyer Randy (played by Ryan Reynolds) to reclaim her family's heirloom, the painting "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I," which was seized by the Nazis during World War II. Intrigued by the painting's extraordinary value and legendary history, Randy decides to assist Maria in her quest for justice. However, they soon discover that the Austrian authorities will go to great lengths to keep the treasure, deemed the "Austrian Mona Lisa."
