On the eve of liberation, in a certain area of Northwest China. Liu Huimin (played by Liang Shan), the commander of the Nationalist Party's Northwest Pacification Headquarters, takes advantage of the conflict between the Tazhou and Alican tribes to control the situation. At the same time, he establishes a cavalry force in an attempt to stop the People's Liberation Army from advancing into the grasslands. Dubulong (played by En Hesen), a young man from the Tazhou tribe, falls in love with Zhuoma (played by Zhu Lan Qiqike), a girl from the Alican tribe.
