During the Soviet era, Lyudmila Borogofyevna Kaluginina (played by Alisa Freyndlikh), the female head of a statistics bureau in Moscow, is highly capable and career-oriented, in stark contrast to her private life, where love has yet to blossom. The staff secretly calls this stern and serious boss a "cold-blooded animal." The mature-looking statistician Andrei Myagkov (played by Andrey Myagkov) was talented in his youth, and although he raises two children on his own, he remains optimistic and is well-liked by his colleagues. Regarding the "cold-blooded animal," Novoselytsev prides himself on his integrity and is unwilling to demean himself by seeking help from Kaluginina. In Kaluginina's eyes, Novoselytsev is sycophantic, average, and lacking in distinction. When the position for the head of the light industry department becomes vacant, Novoselytsev intends to fill it but must confront this formidable "chief rival." As the saying goes, opposites attract; unexpectedly, a marvelous love begins to grow between these two individuals with vastly different personalities...
