The film's screenplay is written by Australian novelist Julia Leigh, marking her directorial debut. This work was nominated for the main competition section at the 64th Cannes Film Festival but ultimately did not win any awards. The film tells a fairytale story set in modern times about a female university student. Lucy (Emily Browning) is a naive college student by day, but at night she takes on another identity—“Sleeping Beauty.” This special job allows her to fall into a deep sleep in a strange room, awakening with no memory of anything, as if nothing had happened. In her dreams, she finds herself in a secret world filled with fantasy, beauty, and desire. Lucy becomes increasingly perplexed by the bizarre experiences that occur each night, eager to discover what happens to her during her slumber and how she can find herself again...
