Two thousand years ago in China, under the tyrannical rule of King Qin, the feudal lords rebelled. Outside the blood-soaked battlefields, city-states emerged deep within the dense forests. Xiang Yu (played by Daniel Wu) and Liu Bang (played by Liu Ye), two rebel leaders against Qin's tyranny, lead their respective factions in a fierce struggle for freedom and peace, while also drawing closer to the core of the dynasty that symbolizes supreme power and infinite wealth—the Qin Palace. The course of history is always tortuous and vague, but the result is clear: the fiery and impulsive overlord Xiang Yu missed the opportunity to kill Liu Bang at the "Hongmen Banquet," and could only spill his passionate blood into the Wu River, tearfully bidding farewell to his beloved woman, Yu Ji (played by He Dujuan). Liu Bang and his Empress Lu (played by Qin Lan), along with his strategists Han Xin (played by Zhang Zhen), Zhang Liang (played by Qi Dao), and Xiao He (played by Sha Yi), endure humiliation and fight until the end, becoming the ultimate masters of the magnificent palace.
