Anaïs Nin (played by Maria de Medeiros), the wife of banker Hugo (played by Richard E. Grant), is a wild woman who appears elegant but is obsessed with the writings of D. H. Lawrence. Through her husband’s introduction, Anaïs meets the disheveled and rough novelist Henry Miller (played by Fred Ward), and she becomes infatuated with this intelligent man, later finding herself attracted to Henry's wife, June (played by Uma Thurman). Under June's instructions, Anaïs begins to take care of Henry's life, running errands for his novel "Tropic of Cancer," which leads to a series of passionate and wild pleasures... This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1991.
