This film tells the rise and fall of the German far-left terrorist organization "Red Army Faction" in the 1970s. Led by Andreas Baader (played by Moritz Bleibtreu) and Ulrike Meinhof (played by Martina Gedeck), the German anarchist group "Red Army Faction" carried out extreme leftist terrorist activities starting in 1972. Under the banner of combating Germany's "national moral decay," the organization aimed to create a more humane social system. However, their approach of violence begetting violence led to numerous assassinations, bombings, and kidnappings, causing the purported humanity to vanish amidst bloodshed. The film is adapted from journalist Stefan Aust's bestselling book from the 1980s and received several accolades, including a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards in 2009, a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards in 2009, and a nomination for Best Actor at the 22nd European Film Awards in 2009.
