Wang Xiaoding (played by Jia Jinghui) is a photographic journalist working for a certain website. In his life, Wang Xiaoding always appears careless, showing no interest in anything—be it work or interpersonal relationships, he adopts an indifferent attitude, drifting through life aimlessly. His current state of being is so dismal that even deities cannot bear to watch, prompting them to send the God of Death (played by Zhao Jun) to help him rediscover the meaning of life. However, the God of Death soon realizes that Wang Xiaoding's irresponsibility far exceeds his expectations, leaving him at a loss for what to do. The God of Death decides to revoke Wang Xiaoding's right to be human and banishes him to the underworld, only then does Wang Xiaoding realize the gravity of the situation. To return to the human realm, he agrees to complete seven tasks for the God of Death, but these tasks are nearly impossible for him to accomplish.
