Captain Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) pilots Flight 227 departing from Orlando. As the plane ascends through the clouds, it experiences an unexpected malfunction. In an emergency, the seasoned Whip makes a crash landing on a patch of land in front of a small church. Miraculously, Whip manages to control the plane, bringing everyone safely to the ground. After the incident, Whip becomes a national hero. However, the Federal Aviation Administration investigates the crash and discovers that the truth behind the incident is related to Whip's drug abuse and alcoholism. Is he a hero or a convict? Can Whip maintain his heroic image? This film received nominations for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay at the 85th Academy Awards, as well as a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the 70th Golden Globe Awards. "Flight" was made on a budget of only $31 million, marking director Robert Zemeckis's lowest-budget film since his 1978 debut, "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."
