"Laughing in the Distant Mountains" tells the story of two pairs of young people who go on a hiking trip in the countryside, get lost in the deep mountains, and discover a small cottage inhabited by a strange couple. The man is quite rough-looking, and the woman is mute and appears to be mentally challenged. The man allows them to stay overnight, and the next day, a mountain flood occurs. They all work together to repair the broken wooden bridge. The two pairs of young students not only learn about the man's devoted love but also about his ability to protect his wife with dementia.
