In 1986, in Dallas, Texas, homophobic electrician Ron Woodroof (played by Matthew McConaughey) discovers that he has "the gay disease" - AIDS, with only 30 days left to live. The AZT (zidovudine) he uses is the only anti-AIDS drug approved by the FDA at that time, but it is highly toxic.
