King Nicholas III of Belgium is unfortunately shot in Sarajevo, injuring his ear. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a sanatorium on a small island in Croatia, which used to be Tito's summer retreat. The King’s attendants desperately try to prevent him from seeing the news, ensuring he does not learn that events back home have led to the disintegration of Europe, but ultimately their efforts are in vain. The frail King demands to return home immediately, but he is met with a strict rehabilitation plan set by the domineering leaders of the sanatorium. A delegation arrives from Vienna, and their leader announces a shocking news: the last king of Belgium will become the first emperor of Europe. However, the King is unwilling to let others dictate his fate and decides to take matters into his own hands.
