Lily Franky takes on the role of a blind mollusk scholar, performing alongside a luxurious cast including Shinobu Terajima, Sosuke Ikematsu, and Ai Hashimoto in the Japan-US co-production film "Shell Collector." The scholar, who became famous in the world of malacology, lives a cynical life on a remote island in Okinawa, separated from his wife and children. One day, the painter Iizumi washes ashore, and after his rare disease is unexpectedly cured by the poison of mollusks, the scholar's life undergoes a dramatic change. The film is directed by the award-winning Yoshifumi Tsubota; the character "Iizumi," who comes to live with the scholar on the remote island, is played by Shinobu Terajima; the scholar's son "Hikari" is played by Sosuke Ikematsu; and "Shirako," the daughter of a powerful figure on the island who suffers from the same rare disease, is portrayed by the young talented actress Ai Hashimoto.
