The film "Dou Manjiang" tells the story of a young defector who flees from North Korea across the Tumen River to a small village on the Chinese border (Xintian Village, Jiangyan Township, Tumen City, Jilin Province). The Dou Manjiang, known as the Tumen River in China, is located along the China-North Korea border. The protagonist of the film is a 12-year-old boy named Changhao, who has a mute sister, Shunxi, an elderly grandfather, and a mother working in South Korea, while his father died in the Dou Manjiang trying to save his drowning sister. Changhao becomes friends with a North Korean boy named Zhengzhen who has crossed the river and loves soccer.
