The Morrison family of four moved to a small town in Australia. The father, Simon (played by Erik Thomson), is a local army officer, and the mother, Maggie (played by Toni Collette), is pregnant. Their eldest son, Charlie (played by Luke Ford), has autism, which manifests as speech and learning difficulties, making it hard for him to interact normally with others. The younger son, Thomas (played by Rhys Wakefield), starts at a new school and meets a beautiful classmate, Jackie (played by Gemma Ward), during a lifeguard class. Thomas is reluctant to let his classmates know about his brother’s condition, but he is surprised to find that Jackie is completely unfazed by Charlie. As Maggie approaches her due date, the weight of responsibility on Thomas increases, and as he grows closer to Jackie, he wishes for a miracle that Charlie will recover. Contrary to Thomas's wishes, the arrival of a new baby sister adds more chaos to their home, and Charlie's condition shows no improvement. How can Thomas escape the shadows of his life? This film won the highest honor, the Crystal Bear, in the youth category at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival.
