Ellie Arroway (played by Jodie Foster) has been fascinated by radio communications since childhood. As an adult, she becomes an astronomer, focusing on receiving signals from outer space in hopes of finding evidence of other civilizations in the universe. However, her genius ideas are met with skepticism from investors, and fortunately, a mysterious benefactor helps Ellie continue her work. A chance event leads Ellie to receive a frequency signal from the star Vega, seemingly validating her lifelong work. But instead of personal success, this brings about conflicts and discussions from political, social, religious, and national perspectives. Deeply ensnared in this storm, Ellie must also confront her romantic entanglement with Palmer Joss (played by Matthew McConaughey), a clergyman. Ellie faces challenges that extend far beyond the academic realm, dealing with personal and global truths and realities.
