The film tells the story of women in the UK fighting tirelessly for their right to vote over a century ago. Meryl Streep plays Emmeline Pankhurst, a prominent women's suffrage advocate. Together with several allies, she helped establish the "Women’s Parliament," conducting their own meetings in opposition to Parliament during sessions. Due to their radical methods of protest, Pankhurst and her allies were imprisoned multiple times, causing significant societal repercussions. (Time)
