Maddy (played by Barry Pepper) is the son of Benny (played by Dennis Hopper), a powerful New York gangster boss. Benny hopes that Maddy will follow in his footsteps and develop the gang into a family culture. Unfortunately, Maddy is born weak and timid, unable to even pass the most basic test of joining the gang—killing someone. Reluctantly, Benny has to let his son return to society to live as an ordinary person. However, Maddy soon discovers that due to his father's "reputation," he cannot survive on his own in society. With no way out, he has to return to Benny's side. Benny gives Maddy a "safe" task—transporting a sum of dirty money. Determined not to disappoint his father, Maddy enlists the help of his friends Johnny (played by Seth Green), Skacca (Andrew Davoli), and Tyler (played by Vin Diesel).
