Dorothy (Susan Lynch) and her boyfriend Tony (Iain Glen) have just attended his uncle's funeral. On the train back, a sulky Tony keeps blaming Dorothy for losing his golf club membership card, even though Dorothy insists she's never seen that damn membership card. Ignoring her protests, Tony becomes furious, hits Dorothy, and eventually jumps off the train, disappearing. Feeling wronged, Dorothy returns to their apartment alone, only to find it in chaos, as Tony had turned it upside down. The jerk even hung Dorothy's little dog outside on the balcony to vent his anger. Fortunately, the dog is rescued in time and survives, but Dorothy has had enough. She packs her things and leaves the place that has brought her so much sorrow. While waiting for the bus, she accidentally runs into the drunk Brian, who is violently attacking his girlfriend Patricia (Rachel Weisz). In a fit of anger, Dorothy picks up a stick and knocks Brian unconscious. Afterward, the frightened Patricia, in a state of panic, is dragged back to her home by the decisive Dorothy. The two girls toss the drunk into the bathtub, waiting for him to wake up. It’s only then that Dorothy and Patricia have a chance to introduce themselves. While they are having a good conversation, they hear a thud from the bathroom, and they discover that Brian has fallen to the floor and died. Now, even Dorothy is panic-stricken and has no choice but to have Patricia claim that her boyfriend is missing before they figure out what to do next. The next day, Brian's brother, who is also Patricia's boss, Ronnie, goes to the police to report his brother missing. Dorothy urges Patricia to file a report, claiming Brian has been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of one million pounds. Detective Hepburn (Alex Norton) is assigned to the case and first arrives at Patricia's home to investigate, unexpectedly falling for the beautiful Patricia. However, Patricia's anxious demeanor raises Hepburn's suspicions, but the detective has his own agenda... Things are becoming increasingly complicated. In addition to dealing with Ronnie and Hepburn, the two girls must also find a way to shake off Tony, who has suddenly reappeared. How will they wrap this up and ensure they come out unharmed? Oh, and they need to make sure to secure that one million pounds to start their new life.
