The story is set in Kōjin High School, where students have the same hairstyle, wear the same uniform, carry the same backpack, wear the same shoes, and have no individuality at all. Their actions are even strictly controlled by the "Black School Rules." Among this group of non-unique students, there is a unique presence: second-year high school student Onoda Kakeru, who lives at the bottom of the class and experiences the worst of youth. His classmate Tsukioka Nami is completely different from him, being unconventional. Both of them are interested in the same girl, who defies school regulations by dyeing her hair chestnut brown.
