In the late 20th century, Rika Meze (played by Rie Miyazawa), who works at Wakatake Bank, becomes a full-time employee and has just secured a significant deal from the elderly Takumi Hirabayashi (played by Renji Ishibashi). With her enduring charm, she has gained the favor of her supervisor Inoue (played by Yoshimasa Kondo). However, Rika seems to be hiding various discontents and suppressions within her. Though she has been married to her gentle husband (played by Seiichi Tanabe) for many years, they have never had children, and there is a significant distance between them despite their respectful appearance. After an encounter with Hirabayashi's grandson Kota (played by Sosuke Ikematsu), Rika's heart stirs. She tentatively begins to pursue a dreamlike happiness, even going so far as to reach for the deposits of her clients. At the pinnacle of happiness, she and Kota indulge in a euphoric existence, but when the dream comes to an end, the tower of happiness collapses… This film is adapted from the award-winning original work by Mitsuyo Kakuta, which won the 25th Shibata Renzo Award.
