The story is set in a future Japan, where the government has prohibited free love to solve the problem of declining birth rates, taking complete control over relationships. Each teenager, upon turning 16, is assigned a partner by the government, who is calculated to be the best match for them. Negima Yukari (voiced by Aisaka Ryota) is a 15-year-old boy, who is very ordinary in both personality and appearance but hides a secret: he has secretly liked a girl named Takasaki Misaki (voiced by Hanazawa Kana) since elementary school. However, this love is illegal in this twisted society. Sanada Ririna (voiced by Makino Yui) is the perfect girlfriend assigned to Negima Yukari by the government. When she learns about the feelings between Negima and Misaki, she decides to help them keep their secret and fully supports this beautiful and pure love.
