Detective Lin Guiren (played by Tony Leung) is part of the special investigation team of Japan's Ministry of Defense. The U.S. government offers a reward of 30 million dollars for information on the so-called "Avenger" counterfeiting operation. Upon learning that the counterfeit money has arrived in Hong Kong, Lin daringly infiltrates the underworld to steal it but encounters the stunning female thief JJ (played by Shu Qi). Together, they manage to steal the counterfeit money, but at the last moment, JJ betrays Lin and escapes with the money. After JJ successfully escapes, she joyfully opens the metal case to find it has already been switched. Lin arrives at the U.S. consulate with the genuine counterfeits to claim his reward, where he is received by consulate staff member Owen (played by Richie Ren). Owen takes the counterfeit for expert examination, but Lin suddenly collapses from drunkenness; he later wakes up to discover that Owen has orchestrated a plot to steal the money. Lin Guiren then tracks Owen to South Korea, leading to a battle of wits and strength. Eventually, this not only involves JJ but also puts Lin Guiren in the crosshairs of the counterfeiting ring led by "Polar Bear."
