In the 1970s, at a Peking opera troupe, a hardworking and innocent student, Song Yu, and the troupe leader's son, Xing Tao, are mutually attracted to each other. However, life takes an unexpected turn when a catastrophic fire alters the simple relationship between these budding lovers. Song Yu's father is imprisoned, and she is expelled from the troupe. Just when their romance seems poised for revival, Song Dehai is released from prison. Originally an honest and kind man, Song Dehai formed a deep friendship with inmate Shi Gandang while incarcerated, leading him to uncover a secret: years ago, Shi Gandang had stolen a bag from Xing Wenjiang that contained letters written by Yu Xiaoxia to him. The death of his wife and the hardships faced by his daughter fill Song Dehai with guilt and anger, distorting his mindset and turning him into an alcoholic. Upon learning that Song Yu and Ye Kai are about to get married, Xing Tao suddenly reappears in front of Song Yu after starting a business. His return makes Song Yu's heart waver; she knows she still loves him, but her wedding date with Ye Kai has also been set. These two men make it difficult for Song Yu to decide, and she really doesn't know what to do. However, Xing Tao's persistence and determination deeply move Ye Kai. He realizes that Xing Tao loves Song Yu more than he does, and he decides to step back. Just as Ye Kai is about to leave, his son suddenly develops a drug addiction, with the culprit being Li Zhenhong, who is actually the boy's biological father. This all ties back to the fire twenty years ago. When Li Zhenhong learns the truth, he goes mad with vengeance against Ye Kai. Ye Kai wants to clarify everything to Song Yu, but she does not believe him, insisting that she started the fire herself. In the end, the truth is revealed: Song Yu did not start the fire; she simply did not extinguish it. There were already people in the props room, and two of them committed suicide. The strange circumstances surrounding the fire lead to suspicion and distrust among the troupe members, each using lies to protect themselves. Only Song Yu touches the hearts of everyone around her with truth and love—her lovers, colleagues, and family. With her dedication to Peking opera, she defends its heritage and development, ultimately reuniting with her true love, Xing Tao, and leading the troupe out of crisis.
