The new film "The Post," about the Pentagon Papers leak, brings together Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep. Spielberg will participate as both director and producer, with Hanks and Streep playing the lead roles. The film will depict the famous Pentagon Papers leak, which marked the first collaboration of these three Hollywood titans. In 1971, a Department of Defense official leaked classified documents regarding the U.S. government's involvement in the Vietnam War to the media, including The New York Times and The Washington Post. Before the documents became public, the U.S. Department of Defense attempted to block the disclosure but ultimately failed. The Pentagon Papers incident marked the beginning of the federal government's disgrace under Nixon, and the subsequent Watergate scandal directly led to the downfall of the Nixon administration. The protagonists of "The Post" are Ben Bradlee, the editor of The Washington Post, and publisher Kay Graham, both of whom played key roles in the Pentagon Papers affair. Hanks will portray Bradlee, a character who previously appeared in the classic film "All the President's Men" about the Watergate scandal, while Graham will be played by Streep. Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment will jointly finance the production with 20th Century Fox. This film marks the fifth collaboration between Spielberg and Hanks, with Spielberg currently busy with post-production on "Ready Player One," leaving the start of "The Post" production uncertain.
