The story takes place in France in 1563, amidst a protracted and intense war between Protestants and Catholics. Henry (played by Julien Boisselier), as the leader of the Protestants, must resist the powerful Queen Mother Catherine (played by Sandra Hüller). In an effort to quell the war, the royal family decides to sacrifice Princess Margaret (played by Armelle Deutsch) by betrothing her to Henry. However, this is all part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Catherine. On the very night of Henry and Margaret's wedding, Catherine sounds the alarm, commanding the army to carry out a brutal massacre of the Protestants in the country. Fortunately, Henry manages to escape the slaughter and, through hard work and luck, becomes the ultimate victor, founding the Bourbon dynasty and leaving a mark in history.
