Biographer George travels to Switzerland to interview Chaplin (played by Robert Downey Jr.), who recounts his story... In 1894 England, young Chaplin began stepping in for his actress mother, but a life of hardship led to the separation of the Chaplin brothers, and their mother was institutionalized due to madness. In 1903, Chaplin was introduced to a British theater company by his brother, starting his acting career. Soon, he gained recognition and received offers from American film studios. In America, Chaplin was introduced to the enchanting world of cinema and achieved fame and fortune with his talent. Unable to forget his origins, he insisted on incorporating critical spirit into his films once he grasped production rights, earning him the label of a communist and attracting numerous troubles. This extraordinary filmmaker experienced political suppression, the departure of lovers, success and downfall, and in his old age, he watched his past films in theaters, moved to tears. This film won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in 1993, the London Critics Circle Film Award for Actor of the Year, and the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress.
