Jesse Shuttlesworth (played by Ray Allen), a nationally renowned high school basketball star. Jesse is determined to make his mark in a professional basketball career, but he struggles with the shadow of his father, Jake Shuttlesworth (played by Denzel Washington), who is a prisoner. Years ago, Jake accidentally killed Jesse's mother during a domestic violence incident, and now, incarcerated, he faces a deal: if he can persuade Jesse to attend a college designated by the state, he may have a chance at a reduced sentence. Directed by renowned American filmmaker Spike Lee, "One-on-One" features Hollywood's most powerful Black star, Denzel Washington, in the role of the father, marking the third collaboration between him and director Spike Lee. The talented NBA star Ray Allen plays the son, Jesse, and for this film, Ray Allen was nominated for the Breakthrough Male Performance at the 8th MTV Movie Awards in 1999.
