Inou (Henry Hopper) is a somewhat strange young man who seems to have no interest in life but enjoys wandering at strangers' funerals. During one such funeral, he serendipitously meets a unique girl, Annabel (Mia Wasikowska), and they gradually become close friends. Inou introduces Annabel to his ghost friend, Hiroshi (Ryo Kase), while Annabel shares her obsession with the works of Dada literature. However, just as their relationship deepens and the joys of life slowly return, Annabel reveals a truth to Inou—she is a cancer patient with limited time left.
