A skiing accident in her childhood leaves Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) with a leg injury that will permanently accompany and change her life. The genius teenager Mattia (Luca Marinelli) hides a dark secret beneath his friendly and pure exterior. Instead of feeling pity or responsibility for his intellectually disabled twin sister, he longs to rid himself of this burdensome annoyance forever, and one day, he actually does. The traumas of childhood sometimes deliver blows that exceed expectations. Alice and Mattia, two ordinary yet special people, grow up bearing their wounds and maturing. They are like prime numbers in a sequence—cold, lonely, hard—yearning for the presence and closeness of others, yet unable to restrain themselves from hurting each other. They meet, fall in love, torment one another, and then separate to find their respective partners, but fate decrees they cannot be apart. In this autumn, can these two prime-like individuals save each other, or will they ultimately face a mutual extinction hidden in darkness?
