The story takes place in a small town on the southern border of Taiwan. The inn is named after its owner, the Black Cat (played by Lu Yijing), who was once a famous dancer. Now, she is disheveled, pigging out all day, completely losing her former charm. The inn houses a mix of people. A-Nan (played by Yu Peizhen) comes from Vietnam, just wanting to earn some money to go home and build a house, filled with sorrow while working in a foreign land. Old Deng (played by Xia Jingting) has been secretly in love with the Black Cat; even in prison, he never gave up his feelings, and upon his release, he rushes to the Black Cat Inn. Mr. Asano (played by Inayama Norihiko) comes from Japan; although he is unemployed, he insists on pretending to go to work. Liu Liu (played by Wen Jixing), accused by his daughter, shuts himself away, and even A-Nan cannot enter his room to clean. The aging prostitute Ling Long (played by Huang Caiyi), now losing her looks, lives with her mentally disabled son, and she discovers she is infected with HIV...
