On August 15, 1944, the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team parachuted into southern France. Their mission was to support and protect Allied forces advancing towards Berlin. Upon landing in enemy territory, they were engaged in a direct assault. In their efforts to complete their mission and join up with the rest of their unit, three isolated paratroopers accidentally encountered a French resistance group in desperate need of help. They decided to assist in rescuing some imprisoned partisans.
